Wicked Weeders 6th August 🌱

Hi all,

Looks like tomorrow should be a beautiful day. The plan for Wicked Weeders tomorrow is to support Heidi at Whakaipo Bay. Heidi is meeting up with a group of little people from my Treehut (early childhood centre). They have 60 native plants that they want to plant out at Whakaipo Bay and Heidi would love the Wicked Weeder support to make sure that the plants all get planted well. 🌳

My Tree Hut will be out at the Whakaipo Bay W2K bike shelter at 1030am It would be great to have the Wicked Weeders there at 1030am to meet them all.

John Hutch has been a star and has augered the holes all ready for planting.😊

The Treehut site is up behind the shelter, where the large tree had been felled in between year 2022 and 2023 plantings (along the fenceline)

Along with helping to plant, we will bring along some grubbers. The plants out at Whakaipo Bay have all been released with spray and are mostly looking great but I did notice a stack of thistles and those fluffy lamb-ear-like perennials that can grow rather big. Be great to grub these out before they set seed.

I also have a few Rewarewa trees that would do better in the ground than in the shade house, these need some protection and would do well over in one of the first plantings, we will bring a few along to plant. They don't like fertiliser tablets and staking would be helpful.

Bring your gloves and sturdy footwear - very uneven ground.

We will finish up with a Morning tea around 1230pm :)

Whakaipo Bay off Mapara Rd down towards the lake, head right past the campers and then park up at the W2K shelter.
