Wicked weeders update

I hope you all had a good weekend. The planting day on Sunday was amazing, there was a fantastic turnout, and the day was stunning. Plants got a nice watering the day before; it would have been good to get the expected showers after planting, but that did not eventuate. Hopefully, Grant can get some water to the site tomorrow, and then watering the plants can be one of the jobs we do tomorrow.

So tomorrow we will head back to the planting site at Taupo Golf Club. As it is the first planting of the season, the planting technique is not too flash, so we’ll need to check all the plants to make sure they have been correctly planted—not too deep, not too shallow, and heeled in. Putting mulch around plants. Lots of mulch did get placed around a good portion of plants, but more can be put out. Rabbit guards need to go around the plants that the bunnies will munch on—Karamu, Kowhai, and cabbage trees, and a few stakes can be put out by trees in areas where we think the plants are going to get swallowed by the grass.

It was really hot out there on Sunday; it looks like a warm one tomorrow also. Remember your hat and gardening gloves.

We will have buckets, wheelbarrows, stakes, and guards. I forgot to load up the spades for replanting; bring one if you have one handy.

We will meet up at 930am - 1130am

Entrance via the Contact gate opposite the dog training club, I will try and get there early to open the gate.

Just give me a bell if you are unsure where to go 027 6288008 or drop me an email for any comments

The plan for the upcoming weeks is

We are heading into easter and the school holidays next week, so the 11th can be a day off for all

I will sort out a Wicked Weeder session for the 18th; I am not sure where, but I will let you know closer to the time.

We have another community planting at the end of the month on Wairakei Drive, on Sunday, the 29th. The Tuesday before planting is ANZAC Day, so no Wicked Weeders on that day either, but we will need helpers on Friday, the 28th, for plant setup.

Cheers
