Wicked Weeders 15th August

Hi all,

A change of time for weeders tomorrow, we will be starting at 11 am up by Wairakei Village. There will be some planting, staking and collecting of rubbish that has been dumped throughout the site.

The best way to get to where we will be planting tomorrow will be to come through a walkway from Tawa Place. To get here you come into the village via SH5 - Kauri Dr -Rata St- Raukawa Cresent- Tawa St. There is no room to park on Tawa Place best to park on Raukawa Cresent and to walk through the Tawa Street walkway to the planting.

I have a couple of spades, KGT will have a few small spades, and there will be some holes pre-dug. Bring a spade if you have a favourite one that you like using. I will also bring along morning tea.

11 am-1 pm

We will be working alongside KGT and a couple of classrooms from Wairakei Primary School

Rain shouldn’t arrive till later in the day, but it's best to bring a jacket just in case. The ground is uneven with

cut broom and hidden rubbish, so good footwear is important.

See you all tomorrow 😁

General update on the site: Shawn has been on a mission over the past couple of weekends to deal with the blackberry along the back of the houses and reinstate the grass walkway as a public walkway so the locals have more places to walk the dog, ride bikes, etc. The issue has been rubbish dumping. Three houses in the past decided it was ok to throw everything over the back fence until nearly the height of the fence. Carol Lamb and her helpers have been there with him cleaning it all up.
